Alycidon 1945Alycidon, according to his jockey the five-times champion Doug Smith, was ‘the greatest stayer I have ever seen and probably one of the greatest stayers of all time’. He became the first horse since Isonomy in 1879 to win the Cup ‘Triple Crown’ - Gold Cup, Goodwood Cup and Doncaster Cup.
