Coughaudible evidence of respiratory infection. The sound no racehorse trainer wants to hear in his yard. Horses who are coughing need to be rested from work and given time to recover. Any racehorse suffering respiratory problems can be permanently damaged if asked to race. Most trainers now rely on endoscoping and tracheal washes to check that their horses are free from infection before running them.
